O casal brasileiro Ana Paula Silveira e Álvaro Zermiani teve uma grande alegria recentemente. Eles são ambos deficientes visuais e, com Ana grávida, não podiam ver o ultrassom de seu filho. O momento em que o casal vê o ultrassom é muito importante para muitos pais, pois é um primeiro contato mais próximo com o bebê, que se torna mais “concreto” em suas mentes. A felicidade e carinho desse momento é, inclusive, muito saudável para a relação dos pais com a criança que está por vir.
Porém, o casal cego seria privado desse momento por conta da deficiência física. Mas isso não aconteceu graças a tecnologia 3D. Mesmo o casal sendo de São Paulo, eles buscaram o médico Heron Werner, do Rio de Janeiro, que pôde ajuda-los. O doutor teve a ideia de transformar imagens em versões impressas em 3D depois de visitar uma exposição egípcia no Museu Nacional do Rio.
Com o casal, ele realizou o ultrassom e depois transformou as imagens obtidas em um arquivo 3D que pudesse ser impresso. Com isso imprimiu o bebê em tamanho real, para que os pais pudessem conhecê-lo através do toque, e depois uma versão mais aproximada, para que pudessem tocar e notar as características do rosto do bebê.
Ana Paula, futura mamãe, diz que a experiência foi incrível, que mesmo o bebê tendo apenas 12 semanas, ela já notou semelhanças dela e de seu marido no pequeno filho e que se sente ainda mais próxima do bebê depois da experiência.

3D PRINTING ALLOWS VISUAL DEFICIENCY COUPLE TO KNOW THEIR UNBORN SON.
The Brazilian couple Ana Paula Silveira and Álvaro Zermiani had a great joy recently. They are both visually impaired and, with Ana pregnant, could not see the ultrasound of their son. The moment the couple sees ultrasound is very important to many parents, as it is a first closer contact with the baby, which becomes more “concrete” in their minds. However, the blind couple would be deprived of that moment because of the physical disability. But this did not happen thanks to 3D technology. Even the couple being from São Paulo, they sought the doctor Heron Werner, from Rio de Janeiro, who was able to help them. The doctor had the idea of transforming images into 3D printed versions after visiting an Egyptian exhibition at the National Museum of Rio.
With the couple, he performed the ultrasound and then turned the images into a 3D file that could be printed. With that he printed the baby in full size, so that the parents could meet him by touch, and then a closer version, so they could touch and notice the features of the baby’s face.
Ana Paula, future mother, says the experience was incredible, that even the baby having only 12 weeks, she already noticed similarities of her and her husband in the small child and that feels even closer to the baby after the experience.
