TECNOLOGIA 3D AJUDA A PRESERVAR A HERANÇA CULTURAL DO SRI LANKA<

3D TECHNOLOGY HELPS PRESERVE THE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF SRI LANKA

Sri Lanka is a country that sits at the southern tip of India and has a rich cultural history. This can be noted for its seven World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, including the Tooth Temple of Kandy, the ancient castle of Sigiriya and the holy city of Anuradhapura.

Something with such a historical and cultural burden has to be preserved, and the preservation of these sites is the priority of local historians, who want these heritage sites of humanity to be appreciated by many future generations.

But, unlike the past, preservation is no longer just keeping things clean and safe. It also involves leaving the place “immortal”. This is being made possible by modern 3D technologies. Historians are preserving the site by creating digital copies of any historical item. From small artifacts to muteus and whole buildings.

Of course this can not save the place, physically speaking. If an attack or a natural disaster happens, there is nothing we can do to stop it. But we are forewarned, if anything happens, we have preserved in a timeless way digital images, which can even be printed on smaller models for study and appreciation.

We have already told you that the same technology was used to make replicas and recover damaged parts in the city of Palmyra, Syria. Parts that had been destroyed by ISIS could be saved.

You may not even visit the Dambulla Cave temple or the old town of Polonnaruwa yourself, but if your grandchildren or great-grandchildren want to, we guarantee that they will be able to do so, at least virtually.
