Chinese students designs convertible 3D printed high-heeled shoes

The high heels, although very beautiful, can cause a lot of pain and discomfort, especially if the person wearing it gets many hours of standing.

How to solve this problem? This is what many people have been trying to discover in recent times. One such effort is coming out of China, where a team of students from three universities has partnered with 98HT, a tennis design and manufacturing company, to rethink and redesign women’s jumping shoes.

Through collaboration, students came up with a series of hand-drawn concepts for a modular shoe with removable heels, which would give the wearer a simple way to cut up to four times the height of the heel without having to change shoes.

The concept is not entirely new, but the effort of the Chinese is notable for the use of 3D printing.

Currently, 3D-printed convertible heels are in their final development stage, and 98HT says it plans to mass-produce modular shoes as soon as they are ready.

Following the same line, the team says it hopes to apply its design and manufacturing technology to the creation of completely customized high heels. They also wanted to develop smart childrens shoes with integrated communication and positioning devices that would allow parents to accompany their children.
