3D PRINTED CUSTOM FACIAL MASKS
Neutrogena, the skin care brand in the United States, will introduce a new custom skin care product, Neutrogena MaskiD, at the Consumer Electronics Showcase (CES) in Las Vegas this week. Neutrogena MaskiD is a 3D printed face mask that is customized both in shape and ingredients. It will align exactly to the shape and structure of the customer’s face and will be formulated with specific ingredients on different areas of the face.
Masks are particularly effective for skin care because they create a physical barrier that fixes them within the product and maximizes effectiveness. The process of this custom mask involves first taking a selfie through the MaskiD application. Using a smartphone camera, the user simply draws a selfie to create a precise and multidimensional map of the face and the exact measurements and shape of the nose, the space between the eyes, lips and other unique physical characteristics. The application then makes recommendations for which ingredients will be most beneficial and where. Users can choose from a variety of ingredients used to enhance their skin, including stabilized vitamin C, purified hyaluronic acid and N-acetylglucosamine.
Finally, the high-efficacy ingredients are printed on the custom fit hydrogel mask in the exact areas of the mask. When users are satisfied with the mask created for them in the MaskiD application, they will be able to place the order and the custom 3D mask will be sent to them.
We still do not know at what price these masks will come out. But sales are expected to start this year.
